        Ⅰ.Warming-up and lead-in

        T:Hello,boys and girls.Is everybody ready to start?Before starting a new lesson,I'd like to show you a documentary video about the earthquake in Wenchuan.Please watch it carefully and I have some questions for you after watching.

        T:OK.Now,who can tell me the time of the earthquake?John,please.

        T:Yes.It happened on May 12,2008.Very good.Sit down please.And Tom,please tell me your feeling after watching.

        T:Great!Tom.You may sit down please.Yes,the earthquake can destroy our homes and is very terrible.

        Ⅱ.Presentation

        T:Now,let's move on our lesson and read the passage please.Anna,tell me the main idea that you can get from the passage.

        T:Well done!Sit down please.

        T:Now,please read the passage again and pay attention to the last sentence.Who can try to translate this sentence?Kevin,please.

        T:Great!Look at the blackboard please.

        It is clear to me that he is not a liar but a truth seeker.

        It is a miracle that he survived the earthquake.

        It makes no difference whether he agrees to the plan or not.

        T:Please observe these three sentences carefully and discuss with your partners to find their commonalities.Mike,can you find the commonalities?Give it a try!

        T:I'm so proud of you guys.All of the sentences are started with“It”.This is the grammar that we are going to learn today—formal subject.

        T:To avoid the imbalance of the sentence structure,the pronoun“it”is often used instead of the noun clause.This clause is post-positioned,at this time it is the formal subject(false subject),and the real subject is the post-subject clause(the true subject).

        Ⅲ.Practice

        T:Now let's do some exercises.I will write some normal sentences and you should transfer them into formal subject structure according to the example.

        Taking good care of the orphans is very important.

        →It is very important to take good care of the orphans.

        Ⅳ.Production

        T:Now you have 8 minutes to talk with your desk mates and come up with some ways to help the orphans.Then I will invite some students to show the opinions.

        Ⅴ.Summary and Homework

        T:We've learned the passage and formal subject. After class please say something to these orphans using formal subject and take a video.I will help you sent it to the orphan.
